R&B Musical Takes the New York Stage

Several years ago I was home on the Upper West Side and heard three guys singing a capella harmonies on the street corner below my apartment. I listened and wondered what their story was, how they came together.
That was the initial inspiration for writing From My Hometown, which would become Off-Broadway's rags to riches tale of three R&B singers who meet at the world famous Apollo Theater in 1980. Around that same time I had also received free tickets to see Crazy for You on Broadway. I was amazed at how the librettist had taken pre-existing Gershwin tunes and strung them into a book musical. I thought, "If he can do that with Gershwin, I can do it Classic R&B!"
Lee Summers is a theatrical Renaissance Man. He is a writer, composer, producer, director, performer and recipient of the 2010 Bistro Award for “Most Outstanding Entertainer.” His work, From My Hometown, is returning to New York City. His crowdfunding campaign is in full steam.
Lee comes to RocketHub from one of our key partners, The National Alliance for Musical Theatre.
The range of demonstrations of support have been moving and amazing. From the smallest Fuelers to the larger ones, it's so fulfilling to experience something you've created receiving so much support from those you know and some you do not via the miracle of technology!
I say, go for it. As artists we must sometimes create our own whirlwinds and not wait for someone else to do it for us.
Thank you Lee and thank you NAMT. Support From My Hometown and grab cool rewards.
